Today we’re going to be discussing pressure washing for beginners. A pressure washer is an extremely useful piece of equipment that you can use just about anywhere around the house. It’s ideal for removing thick, caked-on grime, dirt, soot, gunk, sap, and just about anything else that can build up on the exterior of the home and other areas of the property.

But while a pressure washer can be very useful for cleaning all types of surfaces, it can be just as destructive to those surfaces if you aren’t careful. You are working with the powerful force of water that can-do real damage unless you know what you are doing. The team at Renew Crew Power Washing want to give you some helpful tips for using a pressure washer in a residential setting.

And remember, we’re always ready to do the work for you in the event you don’t feel comfortable using a pressure washer or you’re not seeing the results you want.

1. Check Your Surfaces

First things first, be sure that your surface will be strong to withstand the force of pressure that you’re about expel from the nozzle of your washer. Even the most resilient surfaces could be vulnerable to some type of damage if there are small cracks or fractures evident. A tiny crack may turn into something a whole lot more damaging when exposed to the impact of water sprayed at high PSI.

2. Pre-Soaking

This is also a great idea regardless of whether you’re cleaning the exterior of your home or hosing down the driveway. Pre-soaking will allow the dirt and gunk to come loose, making it much easier to eradicate when you’re ready to start spraying down the area in earnest. Set your pressure washer on the lowest setting and get everything nice and wet. Let the moisture soak in for a few minutes before you increase the pressure on the next go around.

3. Water Temperature

Pressure washers rely on the force of water expulsion aimed at the surface you are trying to clean. But the temperature of that water can also play an important factor in cleaning your surfaces. Hotter temperatures can be a lot more effective in loosening up the heaviest build-up from any outdoor surface. This will also allow you to use less cleaning detergent every time you clean.

4. Select the Right Nozzle

The nozzle you choose to do the job can have a major impact on your ability to complete the task to your satisfaction. The two factors to consider here are angle and dilation. In both cases, the smaller, the more powerful the stream of water coming out. Keep this in mind as you determine the best way to tackle the cleaning job you have in front of you.

5. Cleaning Distance

Much like angle and width of your stream of water, where you stand in relation to the surface you intend to clean can have an impact on your ability to do the job right. Standing closer to the surface will intensify the heat and pressure of your water. Stepping further away from the surface will have an opposite effect.
